Samos is a Greek island in the eastern Aegean Sea. It is the birthplace of the Greek mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras, after whom the Pythagorean theorem is named, the philosopher Epicurus, and the astronomer Aristarchus of Samos, the first known individual to propose that the Earth revolves around the sun. There is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site that includes the Eupalinian aqueduct, a marvel of ancient engineering. Samian wine was well known in antiquity, and is still produced on the island.

Ormos is a small village built around a harbor on the south coast of Samos. It is a delightful place with a line of taverns and cafes on the seafront, local houses, a few small stores, several traditional fishing boats unloading their daily catch and local veggie growers bring in their fresh produce every morning.

Just passed the harbor, the houses start to thin out and there be a long pebble shingle beach, called "Velanidia" and stretches for miles... Moreover, in short distance from Ormos, there are also the beaches "Votsalakia" and "Golden Sand"...
